162 Candidates Across 13 Districts Set To Contest Malta’s General Election On 30th May

With Malta’s general election set to take place on 30th May, a total of 162 candidates from six political parties and a number of independents will be contesting across the country’s 13 electoral districts.

The Labour Party is presenting the largest number of candidates, with 72 hopefuls, followed by the Nationalist Party with 65. ADPD is fielding eight candidates, while Momentum and Partit Aħwa Maltin are each presenting seven candidates. Two independent candidates will also be contesting the election.
Out of the 162 candidates, 46 are women, while the remaining 116 are men.
The youngest candidate is Eve Borg Bonello, who, despite being just 23 years old, is contesting her second general election. The oldest candidate is Arnold Cassola of Momentum, a well-known figure in Malta’s political scene who needs little introduction.
The 10th District, which includes Gżira, parts of Naxxar, Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, Pembroke, St Julian’s, Paceville and Sliema, will have the longest ballot sheet, featuring a total of 35 candidates.

Meanwhile, Gozo’s 13th District will have the smallest number of candidates, with 13 in total. Five candidates are from the Labour Party, five from the Nationalist Party, and one each from ADPD, Momentum and Partit Aħwa Maltin.
The Labour Party, Nationalist Party, ADPD, Momentum and Partit Aħwa Maltin will all be contesting every district nationwide.
