150 New Public Charging Points Now Available Around Malta

Malta's public electric vehicle charging network has expanded to 558 charging points after the Climate Action Authority added 150 new charging stations, representing an increase of almost 40% in just a few months.

The expansion includes the restoration of 100 charging points that previously formed part of the GoTo network and had fallen into disuse after the company ceased operations.

Responsibility for the infrastructure was recently transferred to the Climate Action Authority, which carried out the technical and logistical work needed to bring the stations back into service. An additional 50 new charging points were also installed.

The charging points are located across 33 localities throughout Malta and Gozo.

Climate Action Authority Chief Executive Officer Abigail Cutajar said the expansion responds to growing demand from electric vehicle owners. She explained that restoring the former private network was the authority's first major achievement since taking responsibility for the infrastructure, adding that the work began immediately after the transfer.

Cutajar said the growing number of electric vehicles, supported by government incentives, requires continued investment in charging infrastructure. She added that further projects are planned to continue expanding the national network.
