15-Year-Old Boy Dies After Swimming Incident in Xgħajra

A 15-year-old Pakistani boy, who lived in Xgħajra, has tragically died after getting into difficulty while swimming off the coast of Xgħajra yesterday afternoon.
Police said they were informed at around 4.45pm that their assistance was needed near the Xgħajra slipway.
Officers, together with a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital, immediately responded to the scene.
The teenager was found unconscious after being pulled from the sea by members of the public, who also began administering first aid before the arrival of the emergency services.
He was taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital for further medical treatment.
However, despite the efforts of those involved, he was sadly certified dead a short time later.
Magistrate Dr Monica Borg Galea has been informed of the case and appointed an inquiry, while police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
