140,000 Families Start Benefitting From Increases Announced In Budget 2026

Michael Falzon, the Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, shared that 140,000 families started benefitting from increases announced in the 2026 Budget.

Around €112 million was paid out to pensioners and other beneficiaries between the final days of last year and the first days of this year.

He continued by explaining that pensioners received their first payment of the year at improved rates last Saturday.

A total of 78,700 retirement pensioners were paid €77 million covering the first four weeks of the year, including a €10 weekly increase in pensions.

Permanent Secretary Mark Musu outlined further benefits to be paid by the end of May, including additional adjustments for widows, public service pensioners, and pension ceilings for those born before 1962.

He also noted that nearly 25,000 families received €4 million in In-Work Benefits for the final quarter of 2025, while an additional €75 per child will be paid in early April. Furthermore, close to 16,000 people received €9.7 million in various social benefits during the first four weeks of the year.
