Thirteen individuals have successfully completed a rehabilitation programme offered by Sedqa, marking a significant milestone in their journey towards overcoming drug addiction.

The programme, which spans several months, provides participants with the support and tools needed to break free from substance dependency and rebuild their lives. The achievement was celebrated during Sedqa's annual graduation ceremony, which also recognised organisations contributing towards a healthier society free from addiction.

The event was attended by the President of Malta, Myriam Spiteri Debono, and the Minister for Social Policy and the Family, Michael Falzon.

In her address, President Spiteri Debono praised the graduates for their resilience, courage and determination, describing the ceremony as the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. She also commended Sedqa's ongoing work in rehabilitation and prevention, while urging society to reduce the stigma surrounding addiction. "Those who are victims need help, not condemnation," she said.

During the ceremony, graduates shared personal testimonies about reclaiming their lives, while commemorative gifts handmade by residents of the Santa Marija Community symbolised responsibility, empathy and respect.

Minister Michael Falzon reaffirmed the government's commitment to investing in rehabilitation services and professional support, encouraging those struggling with addiction to seek help before their situation worsens.

Meanwhile, Alfred Grixti revealed that Sedqa assisted 2,037 people throughout 2025. By mid-June this year, a further 1,832 individuals had already received support. He also highlighted the agency's prevention efforts, noting that more than 27,000 people were reached through over 4,100 preventive programmes in 2025, with over 9,000 people already benefiting from training sessions so far this year.
