12 Fined Around €2,000 In Total After Swieqi Disturbance; 17 Fines Issued Over The Weekend

12 young people were fined around total of €2,000 after police responded to reports of excessive noise at an apartment block in Swieqi on Sunday evening.

Officers were called to Triq Cannataci after receiving reports of a group causing a disturbance. Police arrived shortly afterwards, brought the situation under control and issued on-the-spot administrative fines for breaches of public order and the peace, as well as illegal littering.

Inspections carried out by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) also found that eight of the nine apartments in the block were operating in breach of their licence conditions. Tourists staying in the affected apartments were instructed to leave and were relocated to alternative accommodation.

The MTA also found the operator in breach of regulatory requirements, issuing an Enforcement Notice and ordering the immediate suspension of operations. The entire apartment block has since been closed until the operator complies with all legal and regulatory obligations.

Police issued 17 on-the-spot fines over the weekend as part of ongoing enforcement efforts.
