Alex Borg Elected New PN Leader After Narrow Victory

The Electoral Commission of the Nationalist Party has officially announced the result of the PN leadership election, declaring Alex Borg as the new leader of the party.
The final count confirmed a razor-thin victory, with Alex Borg securing 8,905 votes against Adrian Delia’s 8,861. This means Borg won with 50.1% of the vote, making him the party’s new leader by the slimmest of margins.
A total of 17,862 votes were cast in this election, with turnout reflecting strong engagement from the party’s membership.
Speaking at the PN Headquarters in Pietà shortly after 4am on Sunday, Borg described the election outcome as the start of “a new chapter that will bring victory to Malta.”
In his first comments as leader, Borg pledged unity across the party:
“I will walk shoulder to shoulder with everyone – with Adrian Delia, and with all of you. We want to see a stronger party, an effective Opposition, and an alternative government.”
The newly elected PN leader also paid tribute to former leader Bernard Grech and expressed gratitude to Adrian Delia, as well as all those who participated in the process. He further emphasised the importance of young people in shaping his leadership and the party’s future.
“It will be a long but beautiful journey for the Nationalist Party,” Borg told supporters and members of the press, as celebrations erupted at Dar Ċentrali.
Following weeks of campaigning and speculation, the hours-long ballot count finally brought the suspense to an end, marking a historic moment for the PN as Borg steps into leadership after one of the closest races in the party’s history.
