The Times of Malta has revealed that Arnold Cassola will co-launch a new political party, named ‘Momentum,’ in January, with the goal of challenging Malta’s political duopoly.
Speaking to the Times of Malta, Cassola confirmed the party’s name but withheld further details, stating that more information will be announced in January. He also emphasized that the party is not meant to be seen as “Cassola’s party,” highlighting its team-based structure.
The independent politician and former AD leader narrowly missed a European Parliament seat in June, finishing third in first-preference votes. His tally of 12,700 votes was his best result since 2004.
The new party will also include software engineer Mark Camilleri Gambin, who has been part of Cassola’s policy discussions through ‘Vision Circles,’ which aim to shape a viable third political force.
Malta’s political scene has been particularly active in recent weeks. Alongside the formation of the Momentum Party, the new Partit Malta Progressiva, led by former Labour officials Cyrus Engerer and Silvan Agius, has also emerged.
Additionally, the political NGO ‘Il-Kolletiv’ announced its plans to form a party, promising further changes to Malta’s political landscape.
