Independent candidate Arnold Cassola has seen a significant increase in his polling numbers, positioning him as a potential contender for one of Malta’s six seats in the European Parliament.
According to a new Times of Malta poll, Cassola’s support has risen from around 1% to just under 6%, making him the third choice among voters.
This boost comes amid a sharp decline in the number of undecided voters, dropping from 41% in April to 25%.

While EP President and PN MEP Roberta Metsola remains the clear frontrunner with one in four voters’ top preference, Cassola’s rise is notable. Metsola’s solid support within her party contrasts with Cassola’s increasing appeal among independents, where 46% of those planning to vote for an independent candidate favour him.
Despite Labour and PN candidates like Alex Agius Saliba and Peter Agius showing strong polling numbers, Cassola stands out as a significant independent presence. His support is particularly strong in PN-leaning regions, indicating a regional divide in voter preferences.
Cassola’s unexpected surge highlights his growing influence and potential to disrupt the traditional party dynamics in the upcoming elections.
