As part of the 8th September festivities, the Armed Forces of Malta mounted a Guard of Honour in front of the Xagħra Parish Church in Gozo. Victory Day, celebrated annually on this date, commemorates three historic events: the end of the Great Siege of 1565, the French blockade of 1800, and Malta’s resilience during the Second World War in 1943.

The occasion also coincides with the religious feast of the Nativity of Mary, known locally as il-Bambina. The day therefore reflects both Malta’s military and religious traditions, honouring the courage of its people while also celebrating an enduring spiritual devotion.
