Taking to social media, Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo revealed that following consultations with the Naxxar Local Council and Infrastructure Minister Aaron Farrugia, the application to keep a particular zone in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq an area for caravans has been annulled.
The Minister said that this form part of a holistic strategy which aims to achieve the following goals:
- Limit the potential conflicts between the use of the space for recreational purposes
- To control the environmental impacts on the particular zone
- A change to specific sites which goes beyond structured activity
This follows a statement by the Naxxar Local Council on the 11th of July which raised concerns over the caravan site of the Naxxar coast.
‘Is this they type of caravan site Infrastructure Malta is aiming for our beautiful Naxxar Coast’ the statement asked. ‘Can’t we do better?! Oh sorry, they are proposing an improvement. Mobile toilets!’
‘Photos showing just a part of the situation this morning next to a site which IM applied with the PA to implement a temporary caravan site which dos not include any amenities except for mobile toilets.’
‘We appeal to IM to suspend the application and get together to discuss a proper caravan site deserving to Naxxar and Malta.’
