Yesterday, police were informed at around 1445hrs that a traffic accident had taken place in Triq il-Kanun, Ħal Qormi.
Police convened immediately on site and found, through preliminary investigations, that an ambulance driven by a 55 year old resident of Imqabba crashed into a parked truck.
As a consequence, the truck struck two other vehicles which were parked. On the front of the ambulance was another 54 year old man resident of Ħal Safi.
As a cause of the impact, the two men, both Emergency Ambulance Responders, got stuck by their legs and had to be taken out of the situation by Civil Protection Department officers.
On the back of the ambulance was a 35 year old nurse resident of Mosta as well as two women, aged 49 and 23, both residents of Dingli.
All the persons were given preliminary medical aid and later taken to Mater Dei via various ambulances for further aid.
Later, the 49 year old woman and the two Emergency Ambulance Responders were certified as having suffered grievous injuries. The other two persons were certified as having suffered light injuries.
Police investigations are ongoing.
