All Major Leaders Back Vision Malta 2050 As Government Extends Consultation Period
Local

The Government of Malta has announced an extension of the public consultation on Vision Malta 2050, following a request from the Opposition (PN) to submit their official feedback. The original consultation period had closed, but the Government has now extended it until the end of October, ensuring that all stakeholders can participate in shaping the country’s long-term strategy.

The decision highlights the unprecedented level of consensus achieved on the project.

Key national figures, including the Opposition, the President of the Republic, the Archbishop of Malta, and representatives from the private sector, are actively engaged in the process, signalling broad-based support for a unified national vision.

Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri described Vision Malta 2050 as a historic opportunity to provide Malta with a long-term framework for policy and development that goes beyond the traditional five-year political cycle. He emphasised that the initiative has already received positive feedback from diverse sectors of society.

The consultation process has been extensive, involving meetings with social partners, public entities, private enterprises, focus groups, surveys, and international consultations. Initiatives such as the ‘Oħlom Oħloq’ project, which toured communities across Malta during the summer, collected ideas and aspirations from citizens of all ages.

According to Ronald Mizzi, Permanent Secretary for Coordination and Implementation of the Vision, the Government is committed to hearing all voices, “We have listened to children, young people, and older generations alike. Extending the consultation ensures we capture even more perspectives before finalising the Vision.”

The Vision Implementation Unit has already gathered over 2,000 submissions, and the project will be implemented with transparent Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), allowing the public to track progress in real time.
