Mariah Carey’s timeless classic All I Want for Christmas Is You has become the first holiday song to surpass 2 billion streams on Spotify. Released in 1994, the festive favourite continues to dominate charts as the most-streamed holiday track globally and in the U.S.
“This is beyond incredible,” Carey shared in a statement, thanking fans for making the song a part of their holiday traditions. “I’m honoured to have All I Want for Christmas Is You be the first holiday track on Spotify to reach 2 billion streams.”
Spotify reports the song’s streams have increased by 860% globally and 1,100% in the U.S. since 1 November. Over the past five years, it has seen a 120% surge in popularity, consistently ranking as the #1 holiday track for the last four Christmases.
As Carey celebrates the song’s 30th anniversary, she is performing it during her Christmas Time tour, which wraps up on 17 December in Brooklyn. The festive hit will also feature during her opening performance at the NFL Christmas Day Game on Netflix.
Decades after its release, All I Want for Christmas Is You remains a fan favourite for all holiday soundtracks worldwide.
