All charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped

The trial of Mason Greenwood, who was accused of attempted rape and assault against his ex-girlfriend, has been dropped due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence that came to light.

The 21-year-old was suspended by Manchester United when the allegations surfaced in January 2022 and was charged with attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour.

He was set to face trial in November, but the Crown Prosecution Service stated that there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.

Manchester United has not yet commented on the situation, and Greenwood remains under contract with the club until 2025 and continues to receive his £75,000 weekly wage.

After his initial arrest, several of Greenwood’s sponsors, including Nike, cancelled their deals with him.

He was also removed from the FIFA computer game and Football Manager series. Manchester United stopped selling merchandise with his name and face, and some of his teammates unfollowed him on social media.

Football giants Messi and Ronaldo tie in goal scoring record

Lionel Messi has tied with Cristiano Ronaldo’s remarkable goal-scoring record in Europe’s top five leagues with 696 goals.

Messi, who recently won the World Cup alongside his Argentinian teammates, scored his latest goal in Paris Saint-Germain’s victory over Angers. The Argentine star has an impressive 672 goals in 778 appearances for Barcelona and has added 24 more goals in 54 appearances for PSG. This brings his total to 696 goals in 831 club matches in Europe’s top five leagues.

On the other hand, Ronaldo has also scored 696 goals in Europe’s top five leagues but has played 88 more matches. He began his journey in Europe’s top five leagues with Manchester United and went on to score 145 goals in 346 games across two spells.

He then added an astonishing 450 goals in 438 appearances for Real Madrid and another 101 goals in 134 appearances for Juventus, totalling 696 goals in 919 club matches in Europe’s top five leagues. The player has since joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo and Messi may face each other one last time this month, as a Saudi all-star team is set to play against PSG in Riyadh on January 19th, with Ronaldo confirmed to participate in the match.

The spontaneous Nadur carnival celebrations are back & bigger than ever!

After an absence of two years, the spontaneous Nadur carnival will once again be hosted in the heart of the town of Nadur on the 17-21st February 2023!

The carnival celebrations are being organised by the Nadur Local Council, Ministry For Gozo and Cultural Heritage Directorate, in collaboration with G7 Events and Malta Daily.

Between Friday and Sunday, Nadur will see some of the very best of Malta’s top local artists. The Friday night will kickstart at 7.30pm with Megan May, Kevin Paul and Kurt Calleja performing on stage in collaboration with G7’s resident DJs.

The Saturday will be starting at 5.30pm in the afternoon with a Matinee’ Special edition as DJs Sar, Cleaven, Kieren, Miggy, Debrii, Mykill, Nagem, Gabii, D-Rey and JD Patrick will entertain the crowds Also, both the Friday and Saturday nights will be hosted by Malta Daily and presenter Keane Cutajar.

Also, if that wasn’t enough, on Friday and Saturday there will be two official parties hosted BY G7 Events and Elevated at the Aurora in Rabat.

Sunday will take off at 8pm with top Gozitan artists Straitahead and Rebecca and the Passengers live in concert, with DJ Danyell in the mix.

Facebook officially registers two billion daily active users

Meta Platforms, Inc. (META) has released its Q4 2022 earnings report, which highlights an increase in the number of daily active Facebook users.

As of December 31st, 2022, META reported 2.96 billion daily active Facebook users, which is a 2% growth spurt from the previous year. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of META, credited the progress to the company’s AI technology advancements and the addition of Reels to the platform to follow in the footsteps of Instagram and TikTok’s style

Furthermore, WhatsApp, which is another platform owned by META, has also recently surpassed 2 billion daily users.

However, despite the growth in daily users, META’s revenue has declined over the past year. The company’s revenue of USD 32.2 billion (IDR 478.6 trillion) for Q4 2022 was still slightly better than expected, but still 4% lower than the previous year.

Zuckerberg also addressed the recent restructuring that resulted in the elimination of over 11,000 jobs and stated that the company’s management theme for 2023 is “The Year of Efficiency,” focusing on becoming a stronger and more agile organisation.
