A new survey suggests that Nationalist Party leadership contender Alex Borg is enjoying stronger support than rival Adrian Delia, although prime minister Robert Abela continues to lead comfortably.

The research was carried out this week by statistician Vincent Marmara and published on Saturday.

It questioned 800 respondents across Malta, with a margin of error of 3.46% and a confidence level of 95%.

Results confirm that Abela is still the preferred choice overall, but Borg is viewed more positively than Delia by the general public.

Marmara said that the figures reflect national sentiment, while the PN leadership race depends on different factors, including the standing of each contender among party members.

He also pointed out that the real comparison between the two main parties can only be made after the PN has elected its new leader.

When asked about their preferred leader, 45.7% selected Abela, 23.8% backed Delia, 16.4% chose “None,” 1.8% said “Others,” and 12.3% were undecided, giving Abela a 21.9% lead.

Against Borg, Abela secured 45.2% compared with 28.3%, with undecided and other replies accounting for the remainder, leaving Abela ahead by 16.9%.
