Airline CEO says that travellers can’t fly without COVID-19 vaccine

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has stated that travellers must present proof of a COVID-19 vaccination before they board their flights, once it is made available.

Joyce firmly believes that presentation of proof of a vaccination will be a requirement for airlines across the board and will be the first step in returning to normality for companies.

He went on to state that the company is considering changing its terms and conditions for passengers to have had a vaccination before boarding the airline.

Local suicides increased amongst females during pandemic

The pandemic’s effect on mental health is without question and recent studies and data continue to substantiate these claims.

Police data reveals that there were 47 female suicide attempts between January and October which is 50% above the average between 2016 and 2019, a figure which is usually higher in men.

In the last 4 years, female suicides ranged from two to five each year, whereas in October, the figure was already up to 6.

An increase in calls to the Richmond Foundation’s 1770 helpline was also recorded.

Oliver Friggieri to receive state-organised funeral

An author, teacher, poet, academic and pillar of the Maltese language; tributes poured in yesterday of friends and family bidding farewell to Oliver Friggieri, a pillar of Maltese literature.

The Government has announced that it will be aiding the organisation of Friggieri’s funeral for his contributions towards the country and its citizens by not only being a prolific writer but receiving acclaim worldwide by having his works translated.

This kind of funeral is just one step short of being a State funeral, the organisation which is typically reserved for former Presidents and Prime Ministers.

350m green wall inaugurated in St. Venera

A 350 metre long ‘green wall’ in Santa Venera has been installed and inaugurated, spanning the distance of three football grounds.

The Minister for infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg, Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia and Infrastructure Malta utilised 27,600 plants to create the green wall, which covers a wall of concrete.

This project is scheduled for continuation in the south of Malta by next month in a collaboration between Ambjent Malta and Infrastructure Malta.
