Adrian Delia Calls For Accountability On €2.3 Million MCAST Fraud

PN MP Adrian Delia has called for serious accountability following allegations that former local councillor Francine Farrugia defrauded MCAST of over €2.3 million.
Taking to social media, Delia said that anyone found to have abused a position of trust must be held fully accountable.
However, he argued that the incident also raises far more serious questions about institutional oversight, scrutiny and internal controls.
“How was this allowed to go unnoticed for so long within a public institution?” Delia asked, stressing that justice must take its course but that wider systemic issues must not be ignored.
He also made reference to Education Minister Clifton Grima’s post which condemned Farrugia’s actions.
‘The Minister cannot wash his hands by expressing disappointment. Disappointment alone won’t avoid further abuses.’
Farrugia, 31, resigned from the Siġġiewi Local Council and all Nationalist Party roles following her arraignment earlier this week. She stands accused of defrauding MCAST while working in the salaries department, allegedly by manipulating the payroll system to authorise double payments to her own accounts.
A further €122,000 transfer was stopped in July, and a police search uncovered luxury goods and documentation linked to property and high-value vehicle purchases.
