Malta’s Eurovision 2025 representative Miriana Conte was interviewed by BBC following the Eurovision Broadcasting Union’s as well as the same UK news network’s ban on the word ‘KANT’.

‘To me it means serving singing’, Miriana told the BBC Newsnight interviewer.

The original version of the song, so as it is as we speak, is a Maltese word that holds a lot of meaning to us and we never intended to offend anyone’, continued Conte.

‘Obviously the word K-A-N-T means singing in our language, so you can imagine what power it holds.’

She went on to say that is unfortunate that a broadcaster as influential as BBC would raise such concerns, ‘especially considering Eurovision’s spirit of celebrating cultural diversity and languages.’

‘That said we’ve made the adjustments to ensure the focus remains on the music and the message’, she said.

Conte concluded that the team and herself want to ensure that nothing distracts from the message.

People Gather At Valletta For Nationalist Party Protest Against Government

Mar 9 2025 Share

Several hundreds if not thousands of people have gathered in Valletta to join the Nationalist Party in protesting against the current Labour party government.

In an interview on Net TV, PN leader Bernard Grech called on Maltese and Gozitans to gather in front of Parliament from 3 pm on Sunday, to send a message to the government.

Speaking about the Government’s failures, Bernard Grech stated that “Today, this failure has also spread to an international level because we have a Prime Minister who, in Malta, speaks against European investment in defence, but then goes to the European Union and says and does precisely the opposite.”
