Activists Glue Themselves to Tarmac at Frankfurt Airport

Jul 25 2024 Share

Climate activists holding signs saying “ÖL TÖTET,” which translates to “oil kills,” glued themselves to the tarmac at Frankfurt Airport early this morning.

Eight members of the climate activist group “Letzte Generation” attempted to use pincers to cut through the wire fences; seven successfully made their way onto the runway, while the eighth was detained before he managed to do so. Those who succeeded attached themselves to the tarmac using a mixture of glue and sand. Later on, the remaining seven were also arrested.

The activist group is advocating for a binding international agreement to end the use of fossil fuels by 2030.

After a temporary suspension of flights, all operations resumed at 7:50 AM. Frankfurt Airport advises passengers to check their flight status on the airline’s website throughout the day, as further delays and cancellations may be expected.

Jul 25 2024 Share

Through a collaboration between Aġenzija Sapport and the Croatian association UNUO, 12 individuals with disabilities participated in the international gastronomy competition Cupi’s Spoon, held in Malta for the second time.

Minister for Inclusion and Voluntary Work Julia Farrugia Portelli and CEO of Aġenzija Sapport Oliver Scicluna attended the event.

Participants, all individuals with disabilities over the age of 18, had the opportunity to showcase their skills in cooking or cocktail preparation, presenting their creations to a jury of three members from the hospitality, sports, and broadcasting sectors. The judges scored based on the preparation process and presentation. The winners will represent Malta in the competition finals in Croatia later this year.

Cupi’s Spoon, an initiative by UNUO, involves representatives traveling across various European countries with a van equipped for individuals with disabilities to prepare their dishes or cocktails. The van tours European countries throughout the year until winners from each country are selected. During their visit to Malta, UNUO President Vedran Habel and Aġenzija Sapport CEO Oliver Scicluna signed an agreement making Aġenzija Sapport the licensed entity to represent UNUO and host the Malta edition of Cupi’s Spoon starting next year.

Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli praised the project, highlighting its role in fostering inclusion. “By providing a platform where everyone can showcase their skills and creativity, we are breaking down barriers and emphasizing that talent knows no limits. This competition offers tools and support to ensure participants can perform to the best of their abilities, reflecting our government’s dedication to making opportunities accessible for all.”

“Empowerment is central to our inclusion strategy, and this project encourages individuals with disabilities to take pride in their abilities and inspire others with their achievements. We also emphasize the importance of self-confidence through this initiative,” the Minister concluded.

At the opening event held at St. George’s Square, Valletta, CEO Oliver Scicluna commended UNUO’s initiative, which provides a space for individuals with disabilities to develop their cooking skills and gain international experience. Mr. Scicluna affirmed Aġenzija Sapport’s commitment to supporting this initiative in Malta, aiming to increase participation and enhance inclusion in this sector while opening new opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The winners representing Malta in Croatia later this year are Hope Brincat, who won the cooking category, and Ryan Magro, who won the cocktail category. The winners will travel to Croatia with the support of Cupi’s Spoon organizers, the UNUO Association. Additionally, part of their trip will include an audience with the Pope in Rome, along with winners from other participating countries.

Margaret Xerri, a person with disabilities who uses Aġenzija Sapport’s services and won the 2023 edition of Cupi’s Spoon in Malta, also attended to offer her congratulations to this year’s competitors.
