Jul 16 2023 Share

An epic adventure on the shimmering seas of our beautiful islands is making waves!

Get Out and Kayak Malta, in collaboration with EuroNews, embarked on a thrilling kayaking journey that was not only a record-breaking event but also captured the attention of the world.

The excitement was palpable as a staggering turnout of 73 kayaks and 10 stand-up paddleboards gathered in Marsascala for this momentous occasion. A sea of enthusiastic participants, spanning all ages and hailing from different countries, united with a shared passion for low-carbon sports and a commitment to preserving our planet’s precious ecosystems. Truly a sight to behold!

Under the watchful guidance of Arthur and Dianiela from GOAK, they set off, embarking on a mesmerising journey that would take them to remarkable natural wonders and hidden gems. But this time, they had a special guest on board. EuroNews, in collaboration with renowned marine expert Prof. Alan Deidun, captured the thrilling escapade on film, highlighting the immense biodiversity of Malta’s seas and showcasing the profound benefits of eco sports.

The adventure began with a surreal traffic jam at sea as the paddlers made their way to Munxar window, a breathtaking natural formation that left everyone in awe. Picture a kaleidoscope of colourful kayaks and paddle-boards navigating the sparkling waters, creating a vibrant tapestry against the backdrop of nature’s splendour.

Regrouping at Munxar window, our intrepid adventurers took a moment to absorb the sheer magnificence of their surroundings. The crystal-clear waters, the gentle lapping of waves against the cliffs, and the camaraderie amongst the participants created an atmosphere of pure exhilaration and unity. This was more than just a kayaking excursion; it was a celebration of nature’s wonders and our responsibility to protect them.

But the journey didn’t end there. The group pushed forward, their kayaks slicing through the pristine waters, as they headed towards a hidden gem – a magnificent 100-meter sea cave. Nature’s secrets unfolded before their eyes as they delved into the depths of the cave, marveling at the delicate balance of marine life and the awe-inspiring beauty that lies beneath the surface.

This extraordinary adventure aligned with the mission of CORALLO, a project dedicated to promoting the biodiversity assets of Natura 2000 sites in Malta and Sicily. Led by Prof. Alan Deidun, CORALLO aims to raise awareness about the unique living and landscape assets within these sites, emphasizing the responsible enjoyment of these natural treasures. By showcasing the benefits of eco sports and highlighting the importance of preserving our marine ecosystems, CORALLO is spearheading a movement towards a sustainable future.
