99 Years Ago Today: Sliema’s Chalet At Għar id-Dud Was Officially Inaugurated

On this day 99 years ago, the Chalet at Għar id-Dud in Sliema was officially inaugurated.
Opened in 1926, the Chalet quickly became a popular spot by the sea along the Sliema promenade.
In 1942, during the Second World War, the Chalet was damaged in an air raid. It was later repaired and reopened in July 1944.
By 1959, the structure was declared unsafe, and it was closed in 1963. After decades of abandonment, it was completely demolished in 2006.
