8,574 Educators and 34,779 Students Return Back To School This Year

This week marks the official start of the new scholastic year, with 8,574 educators and 34,779 students returning to government schools across Malta and Gozo. These students include 28,873 from Year 1 of primary to Year 11 of secondary, while a further 5,906 kindergarten children who will begin their school year on the 29th of September.
Together with 17,238 students in Church schools and 9,206 in independent schools, the total number of students attending schools nationwide up to secondary level reaches 61,223.
In addition, Church and independent schools have welcomed 2,913 and 1,497 educators respectively, bringing the total number of educators across all schools to 12,984.
Clifton Grima, Minister of Education, explained that preparations began immediately after the last academic year ended.
Over the summer, around €500,000 was invested in 160 maintenance projects across schools, alongside major works under the EDU Infrastructure Programme, including the complete renovation of primary schools in Birkirkara, Mrieħel, Gżira, San Ġwann, and the ALP centre.
Minister Grima added that 245 new professionals were employed in state schools this year, ensuring every class has its teacher.
He wished all students and educators a successful year, emphasising that the ultimate goal of education is to give every child the opportunity to reach their full potential.
