73 Year Old Motorcyclist At Risk Of Dying After Road Crash

A 73 year old man, resident of Imqabba, was taken to Mater Dei Hospital at around 1100hrs after having suffered injuries in Triq il-Belt Valletta, Ħaż-Żebbuġ. 

Preliminary investigations showed that a crash had taken place between a Honda CBR motorcycle driven by the victim and a Kia Ceed driven by a 41 year old woman resident of Mellieħa.

The motorcycle driver was given help on site and taken to Mater Dei Hospital via an ambulance. He was later certified to have suffered serious injuries. 

An inquiry has been opened as police investigations carry on.

Robert Abela & Ian Borg Greet US National Security Advisor

Robert Abela & Ian Borg Greet China Foreign Minister Wang Yi

This weekend, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg had the pleasure to greet China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the airport upon his landing for diplomatic discussions with US National Security Advisor to President Joe Biden.

The greeting was followed by a short but frank and extensive discussion on Malta-China as well as EU-China diplomatic relationships.

The two foreign ministers concurred that the only way forward is to continue to advocate for and promote a constructive relationship at all levels.

Minister Ian Borg also had the opportunity to accompany Prime Minister Robert Abela during his meeting with Jake Sullivan, US National Security Advisor to President Joe Biden. During this meeting, Minister Borg held a short discussion with US National Security Advisor on Malta’s current role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and about next week’s commitments during the United Nations high level week.

Following these meetings, Minister Ian Borg commented that the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade will continue to facilitate open channel of communications in line with its longstanding policy of advocating about the importance to aim for a more just, peaceful, and prosperous future.

2 Maltese Internationals Face Each Other On Pitch

Two of Malta’s very own international footballers have featured in the first match of the prestigious Serie A Season. 

19 year old Maltese prodigy Haley Bugeja featured in her first match for the Nerazzurri, after having joined them during this summer transfer season over from Orlando Pride. 

On the other hand, 31 year old Rachel Cuschieri is on her second season with Sampdoria, being one of the most experienced and decorated Maltese footballers.

The latter had experiences with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, such as Lazio, PSV, RSC Anderlecht and many more. 

This season’s opener between these two giants ended in favour of Bugeja, with Inter leaving the match with 3 points in the bag after beating Sampdoria with 2 goals. The two Maltese players however showed great respect for one another, posing for a photo after the match and captioning it: ‘finally played against each other.’

32 Others Found Living In Malta Irregularly

The Malta Police Force continued to carry out further inspections around the island. 

32 persons were found to be living in Malta irregularly, with each of these cases leading to the individuals having their repatriation process initiated or to transport them to countries they have permission to inhabit.

Inspections were carried out along with the Detention Services in Marsa, Ħamrun, Mosta, Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Wied il-Għajn, Imsida, Ħal Qormi and San Pawl il-Baħar. 

Residences, public transport vehicles as well as zones of work recruitment were most of the locations inspections were carried out. These works by the police continue to compliment the inspections done on traffic with the aim of prevention.
