According to newly released Eurobarometer information for Spring 2023 by the European Parliament, 64% in Malta are interested in the 2024 election and 66% would likely vote.
On the European level, 71% of citizens acknowledge the impact that the EU leaves on their lives and 69% are satisfied by the support it is giving Ukraine.
64% are satisfied with the defence of democracy and the state of human rights. More than half of participants are already interested in the upcoming elections, with youth mostly to give the biggest support.
62% of participants heard of the EP recently, with 56% of citizens interested in the upcoming elections. This is 6 points higher when compared to 2018, the year before the last election.
67% said that they would probably vote in the elections if they were held next week. A similar question was asked in April 2018, where 58% said that they would be going to vote.
This indicates that citizens currently have more interest in the 2024 elections.
Meanwhile, 37% consider the defence of democracy to be the priority, followed by protection of human rights in the EU and around the world (28%) and the freedom of speech and thought (27%).
54% are satisfied with how democracy works in the EU, with citizens mostly content about the freedom and fair elections (70%), freedom of speech (70%) and respect for fundamental rights (66%).
They are least satisfied with the fight against disinformation and corruption. For the Maltese, human rights are the highest priority that the EP should defend (34%).
This is followed by 33% who say that democracy is the highest value the EU should defend.
