53 ‘Clean Up Days’ To Be Held Across Malta And Gozo For World Cleanup Day

In celebration of World Cleanup Day on 20 September 2025, 53 ‘Clean Up Days’ will take place across Malta and Gozo. The initiatives are being organised by the respective Local Councils with financial support from the Local Government Division, the Parliamentary Secretariat announced.
Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, said ,“The government, together with Local Councils, is doing its utmost to ensure our communities are clean. These activities symbolise the daily work being done, but their goal is also to encourage residents to participate and appreciate the effort, as well as to raise awareness about the importance of a cleaner country.”

She also noted that some coastal councils have gone further by organising underwater clean-ups, highlighting the particular challenges of collecting waste from the sea and promoting awareness about keeping Malta’s waters clean.
Emil Vassallo, Director General of Local Government, described the initiative as another success story for the division, noting that Local Councils regularly engage in schemes allowing them to be more active in implementing infrastructural and cultural projects.
