With a public holiday just around the corner, a trip to Gozo with family or friends is more than adequate to chill out and enjoy a day off and what’s a trip to Gozo without visiting one of its many gorgeous food spots. That’s why we’ve decided to compile a list of some of our favourite foodies spots on our sister island. Take a look below and let us know what you think!

Black Cat Café

One of Rabat’s hidden gems, this intimate artisan café boasts an extensive range of fresh cakes and pastries, not to mention a lovely brunch menu.

Daily specials, vegan menu items and a special Aussie menu including Vegemite on toast and home-made sausage rolls, you can’t visit Gozo without dropping by the Black Cat Café.

Dennis Rodman’s legendary 48-hour bender in Las Vegas turning into a film

Iconic and legendary centre Dennis Rodman will reportedly be helping out in a movie about his insane 48-hour bender in Las Vegas days before the crucial championship match.

The film will be titled ’48 Hours In Vegas’ and will be produced by Lionsgate. Viewers have already gotten the chance to see some insight into Denis’ holiday on the Netflix documentary ‘The Last Dance’. The holiday led to star player Michael Jordan and coach Phil Jackson crossing the country to Las Vegas to get Denis back.

The film will be produced by 21 Jump Street and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and will have the help of Denis himself to give some insider details about his crazy adventure.

Lionsgate president Nathan Kahane had this to say about the film: “In 1998, there was nobody on Earth who’d be more fun – or maybe more dangerous – to party with. And yet, that’s not even half of who he is. This movie takes you on an unforgettable ride with the myth, the legend and also the man that Dennis is, behind everything you think you know.”

There is still no word about who will play a young Rodman or when the film will be released.

100,000 pigs set to be ‘destroyed’ due to worker shortage post-Brexit

The pressure from Brexit’s ensuing impacts could see over 100,000 killed and burned due to shortage of staff in slaughterhouses. The measure could be put in place as it has started to become uneconomical to feed the pigs as the British farms face an unprecedented shortage of workers. Around 100,000 have been caught up in this year’s backlog, which was heightened not only by Brexit export restrictions but also by COVID-19 closures.

Pork processing plants have also seen staffing gaps of between 10-16% across the entire country. Pigs are already being kept on farms far longer than they normally would as many workers left processing plants to go home as many are Eastern European. Chief executive of the National Pig Association said that 85,000 pigs are currently awaiting slaughter due to a 15% shortfall in butchers. The backlog grows by 15,000 each week, with abattoirs not processing the number of pigs supplied to them on a weekly basis.

Booster shot rollout begins for elderly care home residents

The booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine has started its rollout for residents in elderly homes. Following two clusters of infections being recorded in these homes, the programme was brought forward by a week after this was noted. Health Minister Chris Fearne and Senior Citizens Minister Michael Farrugia both attended the rollout of said booster doses at a Floriana care home this morning.

With 500 vaccines set to be administered per day, according to the government, residents at St Vincent de Paul are next in line to start receiving the booster doses later this week. This is Malta’s largest care home, with immunocompromised patients set to be the next group to receive the third dose following the resident home roll out.

All the booster shots are mRNA vaccines manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna, but the vaccination of the elderly population who do not reside in care homes is yet to be determined. The ministers emphasised the importance of the jab due to flu season being around the corner, putting the vulnerable more at risk. With the Delta variant posing a higher risk, the booster vaccination drive has been further pushed as Malta joins the booster effort alongside other countries.
