Mar 26 2025 Share

Recent drug-related statistics reveal that In 2023, the top three most seized drugs were cocaine (493kg), cannabis (154kg), and Khat (10kg). In 2023, 938 individuals were primarily using cocaine, and 32% of them seemed treatment.

According to the study, published by the Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights and co-funded by the EUDA cocaine has also emerged as the leading cause of drug-related emergencies, resulting in 13 fatalities, surpassing heroin, which caused 5 deaths.

These figures point to a growing issue of substance misuse in the country, with cocaine continuing to have a particularly devastating impact.

The figures highlight that the journey to treatment is often long, with a median of 13 years before individuals seek help. This suggests a need for earlier intervention and more robust strategies to address addiction.

As these statistics underscore the seriousness of the issue, there is an urgent call for more effective responses and targeted efforts to combat drug misuse and reduce its toll on the community.
