Three individuals have been charged in Argentina in connection with the death of former One Direction member Liam Payne, who died after a fall from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
Prosecutor Andrés Madrea charged the suspects with “abandonment of a person followed by death” and “supplying and facilitating narcotics.”
They are barred from leaving the country. Payne fell from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Palermo, sustaining fatal injuries, and an autopsy confirmed multiple injuries with no signs of self-harm or physical intervention.
Toxicology reports indicated traces of alcohol, cocaine, and an antidepressant in Payne’s system at the time of his death.
Although investigators initially believed Payne was alone, new findings suggest that one of the accused was frequently with him, a second suspect—a hotel employee—allegedly provided him with cocaine, and the third is a known drug dealer.
Argentine authorities are examining Payne’s phone records and other digital evidence. His laptop, still locked, might provide further insights.
Prosecutors have ruled out suicide, noting Payne appeared unconscious during the fall. Payne had visited Argentina to support his former bandmate Niall Horan at a concert but remained in the country after his girlfriend left.
