3 AFM Officers Complete Elite UN Peacekeeping Training

Captain Shaun Ciantar and Captain Kayleigh Gelfo have successfully completed the United Nations Military Observer Course (SUNMOC) with SWISSINT in Stans, Switzerland.

The intensive three-week programme prepares military experts for UN peacekeeping missions through a combination of classroom learning and practical training.

Participants received instruction in vehicle handling, mine awareness, negotiation, map reading, first aid and field operations, concluding with a seven-day multinational exercise simulating life and duties in a post-conflict environment.

Following this, they were joined by Lieutenant Nikolai Cutajar for the United Nations Staff Officers Course (SUNSOC).

This two-week programme focused on the UN Military Decision Making Process, multinational planning, operational briefings and mission coordination within simulated UN Force Headquarters.

Training scenarios addressed the protection of civilians, gender integration and cooperation with civilian and police components.
