260 Affordable Homes In New Government & Church Collaboration

A new project that will see the construction of around 260 affordable homes has been launched through a collaboration between the Government and the Church.
The initiative, managed by the Foundation for Affordable Accommodation, aims to support low to middle-income individuals and couples who do not qualify for Housing Authority aid but still struggle to enter the property market.
Buyers will have the opportunity to purchase homes at prices approximately 30% below market value.
Eligible applicants include individuals earning up to €33,000 and couples earning up to €38,000 annually. The project will be developed in Ħal Kirkop, Fgura, St Julian’s, and Marsaskala, on land transferred to the Foundation by the Government, much of which had originally been passed on by the Church.
Prime Minister Robert Abela described the project as a socially driven initiative that gives families a better future while continuing the Government’s mission to improve housing accessibility.
He highlighted other homeownership support measures, such as grants of up to €30,000 for first-time buyers and schemes for tenants and those with health conditions.
Archbishop Charles Scicluna praised the project as a clear sign of the country’s commitment to social justice, while Minister Roderick Galdes said the development reflects the Government’s ongoing efforts to help families own a home.
Dr Jake Azzopardi, CEO of the Foundation, noted that the model balances affordability for buyers with fair returns for developers.
