As the European Union continues its battle with COVID-19, certain countries in Europe seem to be heading in the right direction as Portugal will open restaurants, shopping malls and cinemas on Monday with Italy kickstarting outdoor dining and schools on April 26 following their respective lockdowns.

During the month of January, Portugal was the worst-hit country globally, going into a lockdown that the country’s head of National Association of Public Health Doctors stated that “went on probably a bit longer than was strictly necessary” in mid-January.

As Portugal’s COVID-19 situation improves following lockdown, Italy also continues to curb restrictions following a number of partial lockdowns with Premier Mario Draghi reporting that the country looks towards the future with optimism and trust, anticipating a recovery for the economy and the country’s social climate.
