20km Memorial Run Marks Rebecca Zammit Lupi’s 20th Birthday

Around 35 runners and supporters gathered in Sliema on Sunday morning for a touching 20km memorial run to mark what would have been Rebecca Zammit Lupi’s 20th birthday.
The annual event, now in its fifth year, was organised by her close friend Tommy Wallbank to honour her memory and raise awareness for mental health.
Rebecca, fondly known as Becs, passed away at the age of 15 on January 3, 2021, following a battle with cancer. In tribute, participants ran one kilometre for every year of her life.
The route began at Surfside, Sliema, looping towards Qui-Si-Sana, up to the iconic Love Sign, and back—repeated until the full 20km was complete.
Wallbank was joined by his family and Rebecca’s parents, Darrin Zammit Lupi and Marisa Ford, who supported runners throughout the morning by cheering them on and handing out water.
The initiative began in 2021 when Tommy pledged to run one kilometre for every €5 donated to Puttinu Cares. What started as a €500 goal turned into a 1,000km journey, raising over €11,000.
This year’s run continues that spirit of love, remembrance, and purpose. Donations in Rebecca’s memory can be made via Revolut to 77300305.
