Iċ-Ċentru Tal-Ilsien Malti has been actively working to preserve and promote the Maltese language since its inception.
During an event at Esplora, Kalkara, Executive Head Norma Saliba presented Iċ-Ċentru Tal-Ilsien Malti’s first year of accomplishments and launched a document summarizing discussions from the National Forum for the Maltese Language, based on a survey by Prof. Vincent Marmara.
Iċ-Ċentru Tal-Ilsien Malti collaborates with public and private entities to enhance the use of Maltese in various sectors, including audiovisual content, public signage, and education for foreign workers.
Key initiatives include broadcasting the children’s series Peppa Pig in Maltese, launching the Vajnil concert to celebrate Maltese culture, and collaborating with Malta Daily to promote the language.
Iċ-Ċentru Tal-Ilsien Malti is also focusing on a national campaign to encourage Maltese language use among children, educators, and public sector workers. Future plans involve creating digital tools for the Maltese language and supporting media professionals in using correct Maltese.
Norma Saliba emphasized that Iċ-Ċentru Tal-Ilsien Malti aims to inspire a cultural shift to ensure Maltese remains a national priority. Minister Owen Bonnici highlighted Iċ-Ċentru Tal-Ilsien Malti’s role in keeping Maltese alive, promoting its use, and increasing its appreciation in cultural and educational contexts.
