This community support scheme has a budget of f €800,000 and will support over 900 voluntary organisations across 19 locations.

Over the years, the EU LEADER program has been recognised as a successful and innovative tool for rural development. However, there are several areas in Malta that are not eligible for these funds. This new scheme aims to address this gap by supporting voluntary organisations and local and regional councils in areas not covered by the LEADER program, ensuring more inclusive development.

This scheme will be available to local and regional councils, as well as volunteer organizations operating in 19 specific locations in Malta. These areas include several towns and districts, such as Birkirkara, Bormla, Valletta, Fgura, San Ġiljan, and Sliema, and others.

The CEO of the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS), Mauro Pace Parascandalo, welcomed the launch of the new fund, noting it complements the existing range of funding available to voluntary organizations through MCVS. He emphasized that, alongside current services, this scheme provides another way to support the sector.

The call for proposals under the Community Support Scheme will be launched later this year and published on the MCVS portal vofunding.org.mt.
