1,720 EU Asylum Applicants In February Unaccompanied Minors

In February 2025, EU countries received 59,085 first-time asylum applications from non-EU nationals, reflecting a significant 23% drop compared to February 2024 (77,170), and a 12% decline from January 2025 (66,800).
An additional 7,630 people reapplied for asylum—6% more than in February 2024, but down 6% from the previous month.

These figures, released by Eurostat, show that Venezuelans made up the largest group of new applicants (8,345), followed by Afghans (5,610) and Syrians (4,630).
The bulk of these applications—around 77%—were submitted in just four EU countries: Spain (12,805), Germany (11,185), France (10,725), and Italy (10,715).
When comparing applications relative to population size, Greece topped the list with 40.2 applicants per 100,000 people, followed by Spain (26.3) and Luxembourg (25.6). The EU average stood at 13.2 per 100,000.

Unaccompanied minors also featured in the statistics, with 1,720 applying for asylum in February. The majority came from Syria (300), Afghanistan (210), and Egypt (200). Germany handled the largest share of these cases (575), with Spain (330) and Greece (245) following.
The data reflects ongoing shifts in migration trends, with both overall and country-specific dynamics playing a key role in asylum pressures across the EU.
