A 16-month-old boy who was hospitalised earlier this week after a drowning incident in Gozo has died, police confirmed on Saturday.

The toddler, named Noah Mizzi, passed away overnight while receiving intensive care at Mater Dei Hospital. He had been airlifted there on Monday after being found unconscious in a swimming pool at a private residence in Xagħra.

Initial treatment was administered at the Gozo General Hospital before his transfer to Malta’s main hospital.

An inquiry into the incident, led by Magistrate Simone Grech, is still ongoing, and police investigations continue.

Noah’s parents, Joanna and Simon Mizzi, also shared the heartbreaking news on social media.

In a touching tribute, Joanna wrote: “Our lovely lovely lovely little boy Noah gained his angel wings today, surrounded by a tremendous amount of love, peace and faith.”

She added that her heart would remain full of happy memories and hoped that his name would continue to be spoken by loved ones.

Simon expressed gratitude for the support the family received and spoke of the joy Noah had brought into their lives. “We know Noah has brought people together through prayer and the courage you showed us,” he wrote.

“This softens the sorrow we feel at this time, and we hope this unity is kept.”

Everyone at Malta Daily sends their love and deepest condolences to Noah’s family during this heartbreaking time.
