16 Maltese People Currently Locked Up In Foreign Prisons

According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg, there are currently 16 Maltese citizens incarcerated in prisons outside of Malta.
Answered in a Parliamentary question Deputy Prime Minister added, Under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, if a Maltese citizen is imprisoned in another country, they have the right to request assistance from Malta’s consular services. However, consular officials can only intervene or make contact if the prisoner explicitly asks for help.
