12 Things That Should Be Declared National Maltese Treasures (But Aren’t Yet!)
Local

Everyone knows Malta has amazing temples, forts and churches. But what about the stuff we see, eat and love every day? These 12 things might not be in history books, but they totally deserve to be called national treasures!

1. Pastizzi

Golden, flaky, filled with ricotta or peas – they are cheap, delicious and pure Maltese magic.

2. Kinnie

Our very own soft drink. Tourists never know what to think, but we love it with ice on a summer day.

3. Serkin in Rabat (Crystal Palace Bar)

Open super late and always packed. Pastizzi at 2am? Yes, please.

4. The Yellow Old Buses

They were noisy and slow, but everyone still remembers them fondly. Some are now collector’s items!

5. Sunday Lunch at Nanna’s

Soup, pasta, meat, dessert… and you still get sent home with leftovers. You will be full until Wednesday.

6. Fireworks During the Festa

Boom! Malta takes fireworks very seriously – we make some of the best in the world.

7. Sleeping on the Roof in Summer

Mattress, fan, and the stars above you. Simple Maltese happiness.

8. Il-Ġostra

Slippery pole, people falling into the sea, and everyone cheering. It’s weird, fun, and super traditional.

9. Imqaret from a Street Stall

Hot, sweet, and filled with dates. Best eaten with sticky fingers at a festa.

10. Driving in Malta

Wild, loud, and slightly confusing. But somehow it works. Kind of.

11. Gossiping from the Balcony

The real Maltese news channel. All the updates, no need for Facebook.

12. Gozo Weekend Trips With Too Many People in One Car

Ferry? Check. Car boot full of snacks? Double check. Gozo, here we come!

These may not be in museums yet, but they are in every Maltese heart. Make them official already!
