113 New Lawyers Receive Their Warrants

Minister for Justice and Construction Sector Reform, Jonathan Attard, presented warrants to 113 new lawyers who have embarked on their legal careers following years of study, dedication, and sacrifice.
Minister Attard emphasised the significance of this moment as the beginning of a new chapter in their professional lives. He stated, “Today we celebrate not only academic success but also a commitment to the fundamental values of justice, responsibility, and ethics.”

In his speech, the Minister reminded the new lawyers of their important mission—not only as defenders of justice but also as sources of guidance and support during the delicate moments in people’s lives.
The Minister underlined the Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the legal sector through legislative, administrative, and infrastructural reforms. He highlighted several reforms already implemented and others underway concerning criminal procedures, Family Courts, and the development of a new Commercial Court.
“All these efforts are aimed at ensuring justice is more efficient, modern, and centred on the needs of the citizen.” Dr Attard added.
He also referred to the Venice Commission conference held in London, where Malta was recognised for its concrete commitment to strengthening the Rule of Law. He emphasised that these reforms should not be viewed merely as legal obligations but as a social commitment. In this context, constitutional reforms and development are not one-off events but a continuous process requiring reflection, determination, and constant adaptation to the times we live in.
In his closing appeal, Minister Attard encouraged the new lawyers to view their profession as a vocation dedicated to serving society. “Your oath is not a mere formality but a pledge that every decision you make will be grounded in truth and justice.”
The ceremony was also addressed by Chief Justice Mark Camilleri and the President of the Malta Chamber of Advocates, Dr Peter Fenech. Present at the event were also the Attorney General, Dr Chris Soler, and representatives of the Committee of Advocates and Legal Prosecutors.
