11-year-old Lyam has completed the challenge of a lifetime and broken a local record at the same time, becoming the youngest Maltese person to ever climb Mount Toubkal in Morocco.

Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa, standing at a staggering 4,167 metres above sea level.

What made the challenge even more remarkable and unique is that he completed the challenge alongside his mother Antea Camilleri.

All of this was done in aid to build four classrooms in Ethiopia for children his age next January through Sigma Foundation.

Taking to Instagram, Lyam’s mother revealed that “We were told to make one final push and stop if altitude sickness hit hard.”

“But Lyam pushed through, setting a national record as the youngest Maltese, to reach the summit of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, at just 11 years old.”
