Office Christmas Party Survival Guide 🎅🍻

Dec 19 2024 Share

Ah, the Christmas staff party—where awkward small talk, questionable dance moves, and one-too-many drinks collide. It’s the ultimate chance to let loose, bond with colleagues, and pretend you actually like Steve from Accounts. But listen up, because a few bad decisions can turn your festive fun into the office gossip for months.

Here’s a quick survival guide on what not to do to save your reputation… and maybe your job.

1. Don’t Be the Drunk Story of the Year 🍷🥴
Sure, free drinks feel like a gift from Santa himself, but know your limits. No one wants to be the person slurring “I love you, guys” into the microphone or dancing on the table like it’s Gianpula. You’re not impressing anyone—except maybe HR, and not in a good way.

2. Leave the Office Romance for Netflix, Not Real Life 💋👀
You might think sparks are flying after a couple of cocktails, but don’t get too cozy with your co-worker under the mistletoe. Worse? Flirting with your manager. Avoid “U ejja, ħadd m’hu ħa jarana!” energy at all costs—it’s never as discreet as you think. Monday’s going to be awkward enough without you trying to avoid eye contact in the lift.

3. Steer Clear of “That” Co-Worker 👎
You know the one. The manager or colleague who always gets too familiar at office events. They’ve been dropping comments all year, and now that the drinks are flowing, they’re like a homing missile. Your move? Stick with your work bestie and perfect the “Sorry, I need to refill my drink!” escape strategy.

4. Don’t Turn into DJ Disaster 🎶🛑
No one needs you hijacking the AUX cable and forcing everyone to listen to your very niche Spotify playlist. We love ‘Sweet Caroline’ as much as anyone, but 14 plays in a row isn’t the vibe.

5. Keep Your Opinions to Yourself, Not at the office party! 🗣️
Now is not the time to air your grievances about “how badly the office printer works” or how Susan’s emails drive you insane. You think you’re being brave; everyone else just thinks you need a taxi.

The Bottom Line:
Look, Christmas parties are meant to be fun—have a laugh, enjoy the night, and make memories that aren’t cringe-worthy. But if you’ve had one too many drinks, leave your car behind. Call a cab, Bolt it, or catch a ride with a sober buddy.

transport maltaBecause the only thing worse than being office gossip on Monday is being a danger on the road. Be smart, be safe, and let’s keep those embarrassing moments to drunken karaoke—not driving home. 🎄🚫🚗

Stay merry, stay responsible, and leave the steering to someone else. Cheers! 🥂

For the third consecutive year, the Kottonera Foundation, in collaboration with the Local Councils of Bormla, Birgu, Isla, and Kalkara, is set to host a spectacular New Year’s Eve concert in Cottonera. This event, organised under the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government, promises an unforgettable night of music and entertainment.

Announced by Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli alongside Kottonera Foundation Chairman Joe Mizzi, the concert has become a much-anticipated tradition among locals, Gozitans, and even tourists. Zerafa Civelli expressed her gratitude to all those involved in making the event possible, encouraging the public to attend. “Through events like this, Cottonera can showcase its beauty and potential, attracting visitors from across the country and beyond to celebrate the New Year while enjoying family-friendly entertainment,” she noted.

Joe Mizzi emphasised the concert’s appeal for all ages, highlighting the availability of public and sea transport for easy access. “This show in the heart of Cottonera will offer excitement and fun for the entire family. I urge everyone to join us,” he added.

The event, which is free of charge, will feature performances by The Drop Out Band, Mike Spiteri, Janvil Jade and Band, Neville, and Maestro Joe Brown.
