Apr 15 2021 Share

Legendary football player and AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic could face a three-year ban over his shared ownership in Malta-based betting site Bethard.

Swedish newspaper Afronbladet reported the matter, revealing that his company ‘Unknown AB’ owns 10% of Bethard shares, with The Swedish Football Association knowing of the problem for close to three years.

Such a situation with could earn Ibrahimovic a three-year ban or a sizeable fine as neither FIFA nor UEFA do not allow their players from having potential financial interests in their sport through betting companies.

A maximum ban of three years could mean retirement for the 40-year-old footballer, with the football icon expected to extend his career with a new contract at AC Milan until June 2022.
