Zelenskyy visits and awards wounded Ukrainian soldiers in hospital

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited wounded Ukrainian soldiers recovering at a military hospital after defending their country against the Russian invasion.

The President, who has been commended and praised for his bravery by various International figures and entities, went on to chat with the soldiers and award them medals. He gifted around 106 servicemen, with 17 of them being awarded posthumously.

The president also awarded and chatted with medical staff as they cared for the army members. Donning safety medical garments, he visited soldiers in ITUs, thanking them for their service.

The soldiers posed for selfies with the president, their faces lighting up as he acknowledged all they did for Ukraine. He also spoke to hospital management about the institution’s needs and the special measures being taken during the war.

Ukraine is still sustaining constant bombardment by Russian forces, with ‘fake referendums’ also being held in the south of the country after being taken under Russian control.

Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will stand the test. ‘We need time and strength to break the war machine that has come to our land.’ With around 596 civilians killed during the invasion, millions have fled their homes to find refuge in other countries.

Russian editor protests against Ukraine war during live broadcast

‘Stop the war!’ shouted Marina Ovsyannikova, an editor at the premier Russian state Channel One’s live broadcast.

The Russian editor interrupted the live broadcast of the network she works with on Monday night to protest Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, telling viewers they are being misinformed and lied to by the Kremlin.

Russian-state news agency TASS late revealed that Ovsyannikova was arrested, previously calling her an ‘outsider’ before revealing she was an editor at Channel One.

A woman burst onto Russia’s main live evening newscast today with a sign that says:

“Stop the war
Don’t believe propaganda
They’re lying to you”

The agency highlighted how she could be held liable for her actions under the nation’s criminal code. This follows a pre-recorded message by Ovsyannikova herself, in which she says that this is the time for the Russian people to rise up against the invasion.

During her defiant video, the editor urged people to attend rallies and not be afraid of anything. ‘They can’t jail us all’ she said. ‘It’s up to us to stop the madness.’ She went on to express great regret for working for the network and her role in propagating Kremlin propaganda.

Here are some interesting proposals from ADPD’s 2022 manifesto

At the helm of ADPD’s electoral manifesto is the goal to ‘sweep Malta clean’ of greed and hatred and to cultivate a culture of consciousness, sustainability and accountability. For that reason, the green party is presenting a number of proposals across an 83 page manifesto which cover topics such as the financial sector, tourism, public transport, the environment and sustainability, Gozo and many others.

The party’s slogan going into the March 26th election is ‘Xkupa Ħadra Tnaddaf’, or Green Sweeps Clean in English; a mantra which pledges to change multiple facets of the Maltese political system for the better whilst attempting to develop an environmental consciousness which prioritises sustainability. Electoral proposals include the complete abolition of political TV & radio stations, a complete halt to the Maltese golden passport scheme and a complete shift to electric vehicles within the public transport system.

ADPD candidates will be contesting on all 13 electoral districts and here are some of the key proposals mentioned in their electoral manifesto:

All public & commercial buildings as well as factories to be used for solar energy generation, with new buildings to become carbon neutral and self-generate their own energy
All political TV & radio stations to be abolished to ensure impartiality
Bicycle and e-bike use to be facilitated via bicycle superhighways in main roads and prioritasation of bicycles in urban zones.
All green public spaces should be open and accessible for all with being impeded by gates and a definitive map of all public passages is to be published.
Malta-Gozo tunnel & Gozo airport projects to be halted
Refusal of blood donation from the gay community to be stopped immediately.
Further sexual education in Maltese schools including information about LGBTIQ+ community.
Malta’s prison should not be led by military personnel or police but rather, people who specialise in rehabilitation.
Extensive work towards reunification of immigrants with their families, with emphasis on countries where LBGTIQ+ relationships are not recognised.

Robert Abela’s claims today prove that he sent a drone to Bernard Grech’s house, says PN

The Nationalist Party has stated that Robert Abela’s comments today “prove that he did in fact illegally send a drone over the Opposition leader’s house in an attempt to build a story out of nothing.”

Representatives of the party have highlighted the fact the two party leaders’ cases with regards to their residences have nothing to do with each other – stating that while Grech’s case is within the development scheme an only involves minor internal alterations a slight additions, ‘Abela’s case is an ODZ one’.

It was argued that Abela’s permit infringes Outside Development Zone (ODZ) policy which only allows 200 square metres within the area, as opposed to the 352 square metres approved. It was then claimed that the most damning aspect of the issue is the fact that “to justify the permit, the case officer mentioned the demolition of a 400 square metre shed which had been demolished 20 years earlier,” going on to hold that the 20 year issue was never mentioned in the report.
