Zelensky expected to call for more weapons as Russian attacks persist

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to call for the delivery of more heavy weapons in his address at tonight’s meeting of G7 group of nations.

This anticipated appeal follows a wave of Russian missile strikes on Kyiv and other populated areas over the weekend, with reports of at least one death. Meanwhile, Russia has taken full control of the city of Severodonetsk and is reportedly targeting the neighbouring city of Lysychansk.

Zelensky has stated that delays in the delivery of arms are “an invitation to Russia to strike again and again”, urging nations to rush deployment of arms by stating “partners need to move faster if they are really partners, not observers.”

Two persons with grievous injuries after traffic incident in San Gwann

Two individuals have sustained grievous injuries after a traffic incident in Vjal ir-Riħan, San Gwann on Sunday evening at around 7:30pm.

From preliminary investigation, the Malta Police Force have reported that the collision took place between a BMW i3s driven by a 68-year-old Naxxar man and a Volkswagen Polo driven by a 29-year-old woman from Iklin. The impact caused one of the vehicles to switch lanes and collide with a Peugeot Tweet motorcycle driven by a 51-year-old man from Swieqi.

The motorcycle driver and woman were assisted by a medical team and taken to Mater Dei via ambulance, where they were certified to have sustained grievous injuries. The BMW driver and a 40-year-old passenger in the Volkswagen did not sustain any injuries.

Police investigations are currently underway.

135 doctors sign judicial protest for reconsideration of blanket ban on abortion in Malta

Earlier today, a judicial protest document signed by 135 doctors was presented in court, seeking to change the country’s position on the current blanket ban on abortion.

Following the recent case of Andrea Prudente, the pregnant woman who had to be airlifted to Spain to terminate her pregnancy, the 135 doctors signed and presented the document to Maltese court. In light of this presentation, the organisation Doctors for Life stated that the doctors signing the concerned judicial protest had no access to it before signing.

Gynaecologist Isabel Stabile, who filed the protest, stated that most women living in Malta do not have insurance coverage to assist them in evacuation to get treatment, arguing that Maltese laws neglect women and risk their lives needlessly.

The judicial protest argues that criminalisation not only puts the lives of women in danger but also impacts mental health, which is a break of women’s right to life and health. It touches upon a number of other issues such as the prohibition of doctors from providing necessary care in pregnancy cases with complications, hindering them from adhering to international standards.

The 38-year-old American had to be airlifted to Spain after being denied the procedure in Malta; As it stands, Malta remains the only EU country with a blanket ban on abortion. The judicial protest calls for the removal of Article 243 from Chapter 9, which abolishes criminalisation of such an act. Article 241 of the criminal code also stipulates that the individual or professional who causes a miscarriage, with or without a woman’s consent, may be liable to prison sentences of between 18 months and 3 years.

A second heat wave is forecasted for this week, with a high UV index of 11+ and temperature highs of 36°C and even possibly 40°C. Wind will be generally light varying from Gale Force 3 to 4.

The page posted a report of halted North African anticyclone which is expected to grow towards the central Mediterranean area, where an intense heat dome has been established.
