On October 1st, some of Malta’s zebra crossings turned pink to raise awareness for Pink October-Movember, a nationwide campaign dedicated to highlighting the most common female and male cancers.
The Zebras Go Pink initiative kicked off with a symbolic walk across the freshly painted pink and white zebra crossing on the Cospicua promenade steps, led by Chair and Campaign Leader Michelle Muscat, Transport Malta CEO Kurt Farrugia, Mr. Michael Cohen, and the mayors of Senglea, Cospicua, Vittoriosa, and Kalkara.
In her statement, Michelle Muscat emphasized the significance of this educational campaign, which aims to engage and inform the public about the importance of self-examinations, proper screening techniques, and overcoming the fear that often hinders timely diagnoses.
The Pink Oct-Mov ‘24 campaign focuses on three female cancers: breast, ovarian, and cervical, as well as two common male cancers: testicular and prostate. This year’s campaign is inspired by the idea of discovering the inner strength to move forward positively.
