The Electoral Commission has officially received the nomination for Nazareno Bonniċi, known locally and more popularly as Żaren tal-Ajkla.

Nazareno will be contesting as an Independent Candidate alongside others such as Arnold Cassola, Adrian Żammit, James Ryder, Radu Gheorghe, Simon Mercieca and Alexander D’agata.

Żaren has been inputting his name for election in both local general elections and for the European Parliament elections for most of the recent elections.

He’s also become popular for his proposals, which have included granting €4,000 for any woman who wishes to get breast implants.

64 New Members Join Malta’s Civil Protection Force

Malta’s Civil Protection Department recently celebrated the addition of 64 new members to its ranks, bringing the total force to nearly 300 officials.

These recruits completed an intensive 20-week training course and were officially sworn in at a ceremony at the Civil Protection station in Ħal Far. The event featured a passing out parade, marking the culmination of their rigorous preparation.

Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, Byron Camilleri, highlighted the importance of the new recruits in a department that has seen significant government investment in resources for rescue and civil protection operations. He commended the recruits on their exceptional performance during their training, noting their achievements not only locally but also in international missions.

Minister Camilleri emphasised the global recognition and appreciation the recruits received during operations abroad, including in countries like Turkey, Greece, and Libya.

He stated, “We have invested in your training as well, so much so that every single opportunity you had to prove yourselves, you passed with flying colours, in Malta and even in operations overseas when you went to help those in need in Turkey, Greece, Libya – you were complemented and appreciated by everyone.”

Malta is preparing to welcome a 10-year-old girl, Lara Abu Alkas, from Gaza for medical treatment after the girl sustained injuries from an air strike. The incident also involved a missile fragment hitting Lara during an attack by Israel on Gaza. Despite surviving the attack, Lara’s injuries require special medical attention.

The Palestinian Embassy has confirmed that Lara, accompanied by her mother, will arrive in Malta on Monday at approximately 6:40 pm. The Maltese government has pledged to cover all medical expenses for Lara’s treatment. The efforts to bring her to Malta were supported by fundraising initiatives aimed at helping injured children from Gaza. These funds were raised through the collaborative efforts of the Palestinian Embassy and the Maltese government.
