It also paid tribute to youth workers and professionals who, through their commitment and passion, create opportunities and safe spaces for development.

Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research, and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti praised the values shown by these young individuals, describing them as today’s leaders, not just tomorrow’s.

He highlighted their energy, creativity, resilience, and drive to make a difference. “You are shaping our society with fresh ideas and strong values,” he said.

Azzopardi Tanti reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in youth-focused programmes like Youth.inc, which support the development of active and informed citizens.

He encouraged young people to participate in the Malta 2050 national consultation, reminding them that their voices matter and should be heard.

The event closed with a strong message of hope, recognising the potential of the younger generation to lead meaningful change in Malta’s future.

Virtual Reality Brings New Experiences to Elderly Residents

Jul 4 2025 Share

Elderly residents at the Floriana Residential Home are embracing new experiences through Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technology, as part of a pilot project introduced by Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC).

Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Malcolm Paul Agius Galea visited the facility to observe first-hand how the technology is being used to enrich the lives of older adults.

The initiative originated from a seminar on innovation and creativity, with AACC ensuring staff received specialised training to use the technology safely and effectively with residents.

Dr Agius Galea emphasised that the project is a clear example of how active ageing can be enhanced through modern tools that make a real difference.

“Technology isn’t replacing human interaction, it’s strengthening it. This is another step in delivering holistic care,” he said.

During the first sessions, participants experienced virtual visits to emotionally significant places such as the Parish Church of Ħaż-Żabbar, Venice, and the Vatican. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and the project is now set to expand to more care homes across Malta.

The initiative supports cognitive stimulation, social inclusion, and rehabilitation – all within a safe, enjoyable, and elderly-friendly environment.
