Young Local Footballer Breaks Two National Records

Jayden Farrugia, a young goalkeeper for Mosta FC and the Maltese national team, has set two national records during the 2024 to 2025 football season.

At just 17 years old, he has become the youngest player to take part in the highest number of competitions at the top levels of Maltese football.

These competitions include the U17 Section A, U17 Knockout, National Youth League Section A, National Youth League Knockout, the Premier League, the FA Trophy and the UEFA Under 17 Qualifiers.

This achievement marks his participation in seven different competitions within a single season, a rare milestone for any player, let alone someone of his age.

In addition, Jayden also holds the record for playing the highest number of matches in a single season at these top levels. He featured in 48 matches, which included games across all the aforementioned competitions.

Luke Micallef Secures Seventh Consecutive National Mountain Running Title

Luke Micallef of AC Pembroke has once again proven his dominance by winning the National Mountain Running Championship for the seventh consecutive year. He crossed the finish line first, setting a new record time of 18:23, beating his previous best from last year by seven seconds.

Now in its 12th edition, the Championships were held in Binġemma under the auspices of Athletics Malta and the Mġarr Local Council.

The race took place in the unique countryside environment of the area, covering a distance of 5.6 km. Runners faced a continuous ascent of 139 metres and a gentle descent of 35 metres, starting from Binġemma and reaching one of Malta’s highest points at 240 metres elevation, before finishing at Kunċizzjoni, near the limits of Rabat.

Luke Micallef finished first with a time of 18:23, followed by Aidan Tanti (Evolve AC) in second place with 19:27, and Tommy Wallbank (Mellieha AC) in third with 19:47.

Among the women, Isaura Camilleri (Żurrieq) claimed her first national title with a time of 24:32. Francesca Arrigo (Ladies Running Club) finished second with 27:06, while Alexia Zammit (AS Libertas) came third with 28:15.

This race also served as the selection event for Maltese athletes aiming to compete at the 2025 World Mountain Running Championships.

Parents Of Twins With Rare Condition Praise MRC Middle School’s Inclusive Staff

Twin brothers Len and Jacob Galea, who were diagnosed with a rare degenerative disorder known as Zellweger syndrome in 2022, celebrated their final day at MRC Middle School in Naxxar this week. This marked a major milestone in their journey, one which was made possible through the school’s steadfast support throughout their scholastic experience.

On the kids’ last day, their parents expressed deep gratitude to the school: “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for going above and beyond to make sure every child feels seen, valued, and included… Your work doesn’t just make a difference – it changes lives.”

The parents truly feel that the school and its staff are doing everything through passion and dedication to include all students. 

The Galea family’s journey has not been easy, but the support from MRC Middle School has helped make it one filled with dignity, inclusion and hope.
