Young Emma Montebello wins two prestigious tennis awards in Cyprus

Young and local tennis player Emma Montebello has landed two honours in Cyprus after she won both the singles and the double in the Tennis Europe Under 14s in Nicosia.

The upcoming star won 6-3 and 6-1 against the Cypriot player Eva Panova, having had to win against tennis players from Cyprus, Belgium, Belarus and Greece to arrive at the finale.

As for her doubles tournament, Montebello played alongside Cypriot player Nina Andronicou, going on to win against another Cypriot couple Andrea Georgiou and Veronika Knyazeva.

Montebello has been training with the Asciak Tennis Academy under the tutelage of coaches Ernesto Pantua and Matthew Asciak.

The academy took to social media to state how this was Emma’s very first Tennis Europe Title after almost making it to the top a month ago in Rotterdam. The young star will now focus on the Under 16 Tournament in Larnaca this week.

MCAST student council donates over 200 Easter gifts to kids in hospital

After returning for its second run following the success of last year’s Egg-Citing Easter campaign by the MCAST Student Council, over 200 gifts were given to sick children for Easter.

Last year, more than €800 was raised by KSM, and this time, they went on to break another record by handing out over 200 gifts to Mater Dei’s paediatric ward as well as children staying at Angela Home, managed by the Ursuline Sisters.

Posting to social media, KSM, stated that they have once again proven ‘what happens when youngsters unite together.’

‘Undoubtedly many others will follow in KSM’s footsteps and continue to serve our community while showing to the public that we can all make a different when we join forces’ said the group.

The initiative was very well received as it continues to give to children during a time when many find ways to donate to those in need and to make children, especially those struggling in some way, just a little bit happier.

Jake Muscat 2022 champion alongside PVK Jadran in Montenegro

Neptunes starlet Jake Muscat has continued to make waterpolo history for Malta after his Montenegro team were crowned 2022 champions.

Muscat continued his playing career in Montenegro after he was offered a one-year-contract by the Montenegrin team for his second spell with them.

The club, based in Herceg Novi, had welcomed the local star back in 2019-20, despite his run being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Muscat returned just in time for the team to emerge victorious in 2022.

The team managed to beat Primorac narrowly at 9:8 in the fourth match of the final, winning the title with a 3:1 score in the series. This makes it Jadran’s 8th consecutive trophy for the national champion and the 11th in the total. Muscat himself managed to land a score during the match.

His home team Neptunes WPSC took to social media to congratulate the player, saying that all Neptunes supporters are proud of Jake’s achievements and are looking forward to having him back for the 2022 Summer League.

PVK Jadran established themselves into the biggest club in Montenegrin waterpolo, thanks to the hard work of Vladimir Gojkovic, who is remembered in Malta for his run with Neptunes in 2010. PVK boast 14 national titles in Montenegro, and their opportunity to Muscat was one he could not say no to.

Malta’s national rugby team secures comfortable win over Cyprus

With a spectacular performance at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Malta’s national rugby team managed to land a comfortable victory over Cyprus.

Racking up a score of 27-10 in favour of the Maltese, the national team had to compete not only against a solid Cypriot defence but also heavy winds throughout the match.

Starting off rough after a Cyprus penalty, the Maltese team managed to land three tries without reply thanks to Jethro Zammit Randich (2) and Robert Holloway.

From then on, the Maltese took command of the entire match, replying to other scores by Cyprus’ team with their own, ensuring that they finish second in the group right behind Croatia.

With Malta’s Dudman suffering a foot injury despite being a main player throughout the match, the national team continued to keep a safe score difference through highly coordinated teamwork and resilience.
